Teacup Tuesday

It’s a bit late, I know, but it’s still Tuesday! I’m drinking a hot cup of Lapsang souchong as I write.

We order lots of tea from Upton Tea Imports; they’re located in Holliston, Massachusetts, but we shop online at www.uptontea.com (no we don’t get paid for referrals!). My husband discovered them years ago and we’ve stuck with them for three reasons. First, their tea is superb; second, their service is top-notch: they nearly always deliver within two days; and third, they let you personalize each tea bag or tin with a sticker on which they print your message.

Our friends have enjoyed various gifts of these teas especially because of this feature, which allows my husband to exercise his humor.

Can you see the labels on these examples?

My husband, Tim, ordered these. I especially love how he customized the label on the middle packet, which is an East Frisian Blend; it reads: “Riddle of the Sands.” His inspiration? Erskine Childers’ 1903 espionage novel of the same name, which takes place in the Frisian Islands of Germany. He labeled his Summer Tea Blend in the spirit of the season: “Dr. T., King of the Weber,” since he is our grill-meister. You get the idea.

Oh and here’s a bonus: typically, Upton slips a free sample into each order!

Who is your favorite tea supplier?

Hello Vickie! So happy to see your post. Hope you had a good Tuesday.

Alas, I am not an avid tea drinker. However, I have been chugging tons of hibiscus tea that is very expensive, in an effort to lower blood pressure. It's pretty and also delicious.

I also do drink a lot of green tea mixed with raspberry, peach or berry tea. This is as an anti-carcinogen.

I get the Hibiscus tea at Guidos since it's the only place around here I could find it.

Don't order anything online though. (Maybe I should.)

Take care and here's hoping your Wednesday is terrific! Susan

Love the ability to personalise. A huge selling point. (And your husband humour.) We buy our tea from all over. And not much on line. I may have to reconsider...

Lately, I've been getting tea at a shop called Teavana. They have every selection you can think of. I like English Breakfast tea and green tea.

I enjoy your tea posts very much.

Hi Susan, We continued garden chores....oh my aching back! But we're about 2/3 done, I hope! That's why I posted so late....so glad you visited. And I'm learning so much about tea, even from you non-tea drinkers! Like the blood pressure effect of your hibiscus....and the green mixed w/ the fruit teas - what brand are those? I'd love to try some....Take care and hope your Wednesday is stellar! Vickie

Hi EC....yes...we have fun with the labels....these make fun gifts, especially if you have in mind a favorite saying the recipient has....endless possibilities. Let me know if you decide to try it!

Hi Sheri, We first visited Teavana in Minneapolis, but a couple of years ago, one moved into a mall about 45 miles from us. We love their accessories, and have a few of their teapots. Wouldn't you love to run a shop of your own like that?

I'm glad you are enjoying my tea posts, thanks so much for saying so.

Hello from Spain: I really like your personalized tea bags. Great idea. I prefer coffee than tea. Keep in touch

Hi Marta! Coffee is wonderful too! Started drinking it when I was 24 because I thought it was what all adults must do! Love a light roast, and really dislike Starbucks....too overpowering!

I have never heard of Upton tea. Thanks for bringing them to my attention. I will add them to the sites in my "tea-related items" folder.

My favorite tea supplier is The Spice and Tea Exchange. I discovered them on a trip to Florida, and I fell in love with their Earl Grey Creme.

Have a great day,
Patti

Hi Patti, Well, you've given me a new supplier in The Spice and Tea Exchange...I'm filing this away in my tea things too. AND it looks like there's one in Mystic, CT....a bit further than a day trip (unless, of course, I overdose on tea before and during the drive - hahaha)!
