Whew, I have been under the mistaken impression that retirement is a liesurely time of one's life. Don't believe it for a minute.
The good news is that no matter how busy or crazy things get, I wake up to new iris blooms daily - gosh, how I hate this season to end. Here are some shots from yesterday.
We will be out and about over the coming weeks, but I promise to return as soon as possible; and I haven't forgotten the post to explain the exquisite hand-written letter in that wonderful study that I posted last week.

Yes, it seems there is always something keeping us hopping!
I'm fixin' to go visit my parents for a couple weeks, and they don't have internet at their house (their choice, and they live just fine without it.) So, I am going to be largely off-line for awhile myself.
Blessings,
Patti
Irises are so gorgeous, and I love your photos. One of the homes in our subdivision has irises in their yard and I watch for them every spring. I'd love to plant some, too, but know nothing about them. Any tips?
Some of these irises are very unique! Lovely...they are poems on a stem!
Hi Patti,
Thanks for stopping by - and I hope you enjoy your visit. Vickie
Lisa, Irises seem to be quite easy....we have awful soil, and ammend wherever we plant. You just need to check the specific requirements for the bulbs you select (sunlight/shade; wet/dry; etc.). Not shown in these pics are "Caesar's Brother," which multiply everywhere we've put them. The ones that get insufficient sunlight don't blossom much, but they are very hardy. In the fall I like to sprinkle some soil mixed w/ manure (aged) around their base, maybe dig it in a bit with a garden fork. You also need to cut the flower stems a few weeks after they bloom, and cut the leaves before the snow flies...write me with any questions (fiberfurnishings@gmail.com), and I'll steer you to an answer if Idon't know it! Vickie
Bookie, Nice to hear from you! Love your analogy: "...poems on a stem." Indeed they are. If I could hire a gardener, I'd plant row upon row of them - different cultivars, naturally! Vickie
Hello from Spain: pretty flowers. I like your photos. Enjoy your trip. I'll wait. Keep in touch
Oh yes. My father said 'I don't know how I ever found time to go to work' - and he was right.
Love the iris. Such cheery and forgiving plants.
Thanks, Marta! Hoping there is Internet service where we'll be! Vickie
Hi Mama Zen! Thanks for stopping by - and glad you enjoyed the irises!
EC, Your father was so right! It's not something I expected! Iris...it's my favorite - or couldn't you tell?! Hee hee. Vickie
These are the prettiest irises I have ever seen. Some irises like a good amount of water, I remember when I was ten or so, I'd go to visit a friend and all around their water tank was a huge bed of irises that got a good watering every time they attached the hose to water their vegetables.
Beautiful irises, Vickie. Love them! Susan
Magnificent blooms. Checking in to say "hi." See you when you get back.
Hi Blackberry Lane, Still have intermittent Internet...back soon! Thanks for stopping by.
What lovely iris photos and such a unique perspective! They look like lovely purple stars. I can identify with busy, I think my folks are busier now than they were when they worked full time! =) Blessings and Sunshine, Valerie
Just me stopping by to say HI. It's been so busy this summer and I didn't want to miss any of your posts... But--it looks like you have been very busy also.
We have had a milder than normal July which I love --but who knows what August will bring us... ha
Have a great summer..
Hugs,
Betsy
Your flowers are beautiful ! The summer sure does seem to fill up quickly even though we often deem it a time of R & r , doesn't it ? Looking forward to your future post whenever you have time... after all, summer is time for taking it easy !
Vickie--The photos are lovely. Thanks for sharing them, since I can't keep flowers like that alive and thriving.
(I hope you got your book. If you didn't, let me know and I will send a 2nd copy. I did send it media rate but it certainly should have gotten to you by now...At least I hope so. ;)
